MEET GORDON
Sir Gordon Tietjens or Titch as he is affectionately known to the rugby world is the most highly decorated coach in the history of Rugby 7’s. 12 World Series Gold’s, 4 Commonwealth Games Gold’s and 2 World Cup Gold’s lays testimony to this. Titch is a World Rugby Hall of Famer and was knighted by the Queen of England in 2013 for his services to Rugby.
Gordon’s influence over the careers of many All Blacks started when they played for him in the New Zealand Sevens and then the All Blacks Sevens teams. Among them true greats of New Zealand rugby union including Christian Cullen, Jonah Lomu, Eric Rush, Joe Rokocoko and current All Blacks Ben Smith and Rieko Ioane.
Titch’s ability to get the very best out of players, to form teams stronger than their subparts and to ingrain cultures of excellence are his trademarks. His values set for his teams is one of humility, gratitude, hunger and hard work. And as a leader, he demonstrates time and again that he cares.
